What is Traditional Thai Yoga Massage?


Traditional Thai Yoga massage is an ancient form of therapeutic healing. Its roots are in India from where it was brought to Thailand over 2000 years ago by Ayurvedic doctors and Buddhist monks. It combines acupressure, energy balancing, stretching and applied yoga exercises. Traditional Thai Yoga massage is a unique and powerful massage therapy.

Different terminology is used in Western languages for ‘Thai Massage’. As ‘Thai Massage’ originally was an Indian yoga massage, it is often nowadays called ‘Thai Yoga Massage’ to highlight this background. To distinguish ‘Thai Massage’ from sex ‘massages’, the terms ‘Traditional Thai Massage’ ‘Thai Yoga Massage’ or ‘Ancient Massage’ is widespread. You may also come across ‘Nuad’, ‘Nuat’ or ‘Nuad Phaen Boran’ (differently spelled), the Thai language expressions for ‘Thai Massage’. The tradition was brought to Thailand by Ayurvedic doctors. To honor this line of tradition, we prefer to call it ‘Thai Yoga Massage – Ayurvedic Bodywork’.These classes are suitable for health professionals. Like doctors, nurses, masseurs and physiotherapists to expand their skills, but also for anyone interested in learning healing techniques to use with family and friends. Practitioners of yoga will find the courses invaluable. Anyone on a spiritual quest will benefit greatly as the teachings are strongly based on the spiritual principles of awareness and loving kindness.
